The stunning of pigs or chicken with carbon dioxide or carbon dioxide/oxygen mixtures makes them unconscious before slaughtering. This helps to reduce the stress of the animals for improving animal welfare and meat quality. It also helps reduce bruising of chicken due to injuries at slaughtering and to remove electrical burns.
